Dry Needling
When a local contracture or tight band in a muscle fiber disrupts function, restricts range of motion, or causes local pain or tenderness, Dry Needling Therapy can be used to treat the dysfunctional muscle or trigger point. When the trigger point is addressed, blood flow can be increased, muscle banding or tightness can be decreased, and local and referred pain can be reduced.
Dry Needling uses tools similar to acupuncture, and must be performed by a trained physical therapist, certified in the procedure. Using a thin, monofilament needle, the therapist can address trigger points to manage neuromusculoskeletal pain and impaired movements.
Dry Needling is often a part of a broader physical therapy approach in conjunction with other traditional therapy treatments to achieve the best possible outcome.
Be sure to ask if Dry Needling is right for you. It could be a tremendous addition to your physical therapy treatment and road to full health restoration and recovery.
